On 19 and 20 December 2025, Josep Pons returns to the Orquesta de València to conduct an all-Richard Wagner programme at the Palau de la Música de València. The concerts explore one of the central pillars of his repertoire through a selection of Wagner’s finest orchestral pages.
The programme brings together works that illustrate the extraordinary evolution of Wagner’s orchestral language, from the dramatic power of his preludes to the rich orchestral colours and expressive intensity of his major symphonic excerpts. Heard in the concert hall, these works reveal Wagner’s remarkable ability to create vast musical narratives through the orchestra alone.
Throughout his career, Josep Pons has maintained a close artistic relationship with Wagner’s music. He has conducted numerous productions of the composer’s operas at leading European opera houses and has made this repertoire one of the defining features of his artistic identity, particularly during his tenure at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, where he has conducted Parsifal, Lohengrin, Tristan und Isolde, Der fliegende Holländer, Die Walküre and other major works.
His return to Valencia renews his collaboration with one of Spain’s leading orchestras in a programme focused on Wagner’s orchestral richness, the balance of large symphonic forces and the uninterrupted musical flow that characterises the composer’s writing.
