Widely regarded as one of the greatest masterpieces in operatic history, Mozart&#8217;s celebrated opera returned to Barcelona in a production of major international significance.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"613\" data-end=\"1208\">Directed by the Danish stage director <strong data-start=\"651\" data-end=\"668\">Kasper Holten<\/strong>, the production arrived at the Liceu following its success at the <strong data-start=\"735\" data-end=\"770\">Royal Opera House Covent Garden<\/strong> in London. Moving away from traditional portrayals of the Don Juan legend, Holten explored the protagonist&#8217;s psychological complexity, focusing on his obsession with desire, the passing of time and his inability to establish lasting human relationships. Designed by <strong data-start=\"1037\" data-end=\"1050\">Es Devlin<\/strong>, the staging combined striking visual imagery with video projections, creating one of the most distinctive interpretations of Mozart&#8217;s opera in recent years.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1210\" data-end=\"1576\">The performances featured an outstanding international cast, with <strong data-start=\"1276\" data-end=\"1296\">Mariusz Kwiecie\u0144<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1301\" data-end=\"1319\">Carlos \u00c1lvarez<\/strong> alternating in the title role, alongside <strong data-start=\"1361\" data-end=\"1378\">Anatoli Sivko<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1380\" data-end=\"1396\">Sim\u00f3n Orfila<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1398\" data-end=\"1417\">Carmela Remigio<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1419\" data-end=\"1441\">Vanessa Goikoetxea<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1443\" data-end=\"1459\">Miah Persson<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1461\" data-end=\"1482\">Myrt\u00f2 Papatanasiu<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1484\" data-end=\"1502\">Julia Lezhneva<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1504\" data-end=\"1521\">Roc\u00edo Ignacio<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1523\" data-end=\"1541\">Dmitry Korchak<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1546\" data-end=\"1561\">Toby Spence<\/strong>, among others.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1578\" data-end=\"2027\">From the orchestra pit, <strong data-start=\"1602\" data-end=\"1616\">Josep Pons<\/strong> offered a reading distinguished by its <strong data-start=\"1656\" data-end=\"1689\">clarity of orchestral texture<\/strong>, its balance between stage and orchestra, and its careful attention to Mozart&#8217;s dramatic architecture.
