One of the masterpieces of the Czech operatic repertoire, the work returned to Barcelona in a co-production with the <strong>Teatro Real<\/strong>, the <strong>Dresdner Musikfestspiele<\/strong>, the <strong>Palau de les Arts Reina Sof\u00eda<\/strong> and the <strong>New National Theatre Tokyo<\/strong>, directed by <strong>Christof Loy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Premiered in Prague in <strong>1901<\/strong>, <em>Rusalka<\/em> draws on Slavic legends of water nymphs to tell the story of a creature who abandons her own world for love, embracing a tragic destiny. Dvo\u0159\u00e1k&#8217;s score combines Central European symphonic tradition with Czech folk influences and extraordinary orchestral refinement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Christof Loy&#8217;s production offered a psychological reading of the opera, moving away from conventional fairy-tale imagery to explore themes of desire, identity, isolation and the search for belonging.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The cast featured <strong>Asmik Grigorian<\/strong> in the title role, alongside <strong>Piotr Becza\u0142a<\/strong>, <strong>Okka von der Damerau<\/strong>, <strong>Aleksandros Stavrakakis<\/strong> and <strong>Karita Mattila<\/strong>, with the <strong>Gran Teatre del Liceu Symphony Orchestra<\/strong> and <strong>Chorus<\/strong>, prepared by <strong>Pablo Assante<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Josep Pons highlighted the score&#8217;s orchestral colours, transparency and lyrical flow while maintaining the dramatic intensity that lies at the heart of Dvo\u0159\u00e1k&#8217;s masterpiece.
