The programme traced a journey from the theatrical music of the French court through Viennese Classicism to <strong>Richard Strauss\u2019s<\/strong> witty and refined reinterpretation of the world of <strong>Moli\u00e8re<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The concert opened with <strong>Jean-Baptiste Lully\u2019s <\/strong><em><strong>Marche pour la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie des Turcs<\/strong><\/em>, written for the <em>com\u00e9die-ballet<\/em> <em><strong>Le Bourgeois gentilhomme<\/strong><\/em>. Created in collaboration with Moli\u00e8re and first performed in <strong>1670<\/strong>, the piece combines ceremonial grandeur, rhythmic vitality and deliberate parody in its depiction of an imagined Turkish ceremony at the court of Louis XIV.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Violinist <strong>Valerie Steenken<\/strong> then appeared as soloist in <strong>Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart\u2019s Violin Concerto No. 3 in G major, K. 216<\/strong>. Written in <strong>1775<\/strong>, when Mozart was nineteen, the concerto is distinguished by its melodic elegance, the natural dialogue between violin and orchestra and its combination of brilliance, lyricism and rhythmic energy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The second half was devoted to <strong>Richard Strauss\u2019s <\/strong><em><strong>Le Bourgeois gentilhomme<\/strong><\/em><strong> Suite<\/strong>, Op. 60. Originating in the composer\u2019s collaboration with the writer <strong>Hugo von Hofmannsthal<\/strong>, the score revisits Moli\u00e8re\u2019s comedy through music that combines references to the Baroque with Strauss\u2019s characteristic virtuosity, humour and orchestral sophistication.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Placing Lully and Strauss within the same programme created a dialogue between two musical responses to the same theatrical source, separated by more than two centuries. The original music of the French court was heard alongside Strauss\u2019s neoclassical reinvention, with Mozart\u2019s concerto providing a contrasting space of luminosity and balance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Conducting the Spanish National Orchestra, <strong>Josep Pons<\/strong> highlighted the stylistic breadth of the programme, shaping the ensemble\u2019s sound to reflect Lully\u2019s rhythmic precision, Mozart\u2019s transparency and Strauss\u2019s orchestral richness.
