The Gran Teatre del Liceu has unveiled its 2025-2026 season, under the theme “the unpredictable.” This season will be particularly meaningful, as it marks Josep Pons’s final year as the Liceu’s Music Director, concluding fourteen years of artistic excellence and commitment.
Throughout the season, Maestro Pons will lead three major operatic productions and bring to completion his celebrated Mahler symphonic cycle:
-
The Cunning Little Vixen (Příhody lišky Bystroušky) by Leoš Janáček, which will open the season.
-
Manon Lescaut by Giacomo Puccini.
-
Falstaff by Giuseppe Verdi, which will close the operatic season.
In addition, he will complete his exploration of Gustav Mahler’s symphonic universe, conducting the Eighth and Ninth Symphonies, thus concluding one of the most ambitious musical projects of his tenure.
With this season, Josep Pons brings to a close a remarkable artistic chapter defined by depth, clarity, and a unique ability to connect the great symphonic and operatic repertoire with contemporary audiences.
