New Harmonia Mundi recording of Goyescas

In 2019, Harmonia Mundi released a new recording of Enrique Granados’s Goyescas, conducted by Josep Pons. The project revisited one of the masterpieces of the Spanish operatic repertoire in a performance informed by the latest musicological research, offering a fresh perspective on one of the most significant works of Catalan musical heritage.

The recording brought together the Gran Teatre del Liceu Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, with a cast led by Sabina Puértolas, José Bros, Vicenç Esteve, David Lagares, Marta Infante, Francisco Vas and Enric Martínez-Castignani. Restoring the complete version of the opera, the recording highlighted the richness of Granados’s orchestration and the expressive refinement of his musical language.

Released by Harmonia Mundi, one of the world’s leading classical music labels, the recording represented a significant contribution by Josep Pons to the international promotion of the Spanish and Catalan repertoire. It received widespread critical acclaim for both the quality of its performances and its commitment to bringing an unjustly neglected masterpiece back to audiences.

The recording forms part of Josep Pons’s long-standing commitment to the rediscovery and international dissemination of Spain’s musical heritage, a defining aspect of his artistic career both in the concert hall and in the recording studio.
