Mahler’s Sixth Symphony in Saarbrücken

On 15 May 2026, Josep Pons conducted the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie at the Congresshalle in Saarbrücken in a concert devoted entirely to Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 6.

Widely regarded as one of the most demanding and monumental works in the symphonic repertoire, the Sixth encapsulates many of the expressive tensions that run through Mahler’s musical universe. The score combines episodes of extraordinary energy and orchestral power with moments of profound introspection, creating a work of remarkable structural complexity.

The concert formed part of Josep Pons’s first season as Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie and was presented in collaboration with the Musikfestspiele Saar.
