Catalunya Música dedicates a special week to Josep Pons

From 18 to 22 March 2024, Catalunya Música devoted a special week of programming to Josep Pons, offering listeners an extensive overview of his artistic career through interviews, archived performances and dedicated broadcasts.

Throughout the week, the Catalan public radio station featured recordings made over the course of his career with different orchestras, alongside conversations exploring his musical ideas, his approach to conducting and his interpretation of the symphonic and operatic repertoire.

The broadcasts traced the different stages of his artistic journey, from his early work with the Teatre Lliure Chamber Orchestra to his leadership of the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, the Spanish National Orchestra, the Gran Teatre del Liceu, and his collaborations with leading international orchestras.

The programmes revisited performances of composers closely associated with his career, including Manuel de Falla, Maurice Ravel, Claude Debussy, Richard Wagner, Gustav Mahler, Johannes Brahms and Anton Bruckner, highlighting both the breadth of his repertoire and his commitment to Spanish and European music.

The initiative recognised more than four decades of artistic activity while offering audiences a broad perspective on Josep Pons’s work as both conductor and musical communicator.
